The Estero Historical Society had its monthly membership meeting on Monday, with an attendance of many, who are committed with the OUR Societies future. The slate of board members, received a unanimous vote to accept the following directors: Dave Pryl, Bob Morris, Marlene Fernandez. Sis Newberry and Doc Weisen. The board is also in the process of submitting a new set of by-laws, once completed, each member will have an opportunity to review the document, and then it goes for a vote.
As one of the newest members, it's obvious, the founders of the "society" are an extremely steadfast group of committed leaders, with maintaining their primary goal, educating the community, of Estero's early years. They are truly the"unsung" heroes, of Estero AND are DEFINITELY IN THE KNOW........
Treasurer Beverly McNellis gave a very positive report, to include, but not limited, to an extremely generous donation of $5000.00 from a Mr. William Campbell, brother of member Ruth Mason. The donation is specifically designated for the "restoration of the school house", WHICH, they reported, has accomplished their "Phase One" goal, of raising approx. 100K, which includes a well-deserved "grant" of 50K, to begin the external construction of the "School House".
One of the original founders of the society, Marlene Fernandez, is the 3rd generation of "THE" Fernandez family, and shared a wealth of history, of the original settlers. Her history class, added to those in attendance, knowledge of which we all need to know, and want to know. The settlement story of her "The Fernandez's", reminds us of, per Marlene, as quote from her grandmother, who originally was homesteaded on "Mount Key".... "When you don't have it, You don't know you don't need it".
Please support our "Historical Society", with a visit to the "Cottage House", meet the folks, pick up some literature, to share with your children. Annual memberships is a small fee of 20.00 annual! Unity in the Community, let's UNITE and support OUR "
