Craig Hamet - PGA Professional
Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Craig Hamet and I am a PGA Class “A” Professional of 25 years and am currently finishing work on becoming a Certified Master Professional with the PGA of America. My golf career began in the late 80’s while pursuing my undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland. I am a proud Maryland Alumni, with degree in Marketing/Finance. Born and raised in Maryland and a recent transplant to Florida with my wife, Tina and 9-year-old daughter, Taylor.
I have held positions through the years as Assistant Golf Professional, Head Golf Professional, Director of Golf and General Manager. Most recently I have been involved in the management of an award winning Golf Retail establishment named The Golf Guys in Bonita Springs, FL. Prior to relocating to Florida I held the position of Head Golf Professional at Washington Golf & Country Club, a private golf club established in 1894 located in Arlington, VA. During that period, I received the PGA Merchandiser of the Year award in 2006 for the Mid-Atlantic Section of the PGA of America. I have been a member of the PGA of America – Presidents Council since 2003 for providing leadership for the growth of the game in both the Mid-Atlantic and South Florida Sections of the PGA of America. ............ read Craig's Golf Blog and learn something Knews
I have developed, promoted, and implemented lesson programs for golfers of all skill levels. I have given over 5,000 golf lessons over the past 20 years and have developed many students into lifelong golfing enthusiasts. My lessons are personalized to the students playing ability as I keep a profile of each student's progress. I provide one-on-one instruction giving the student all of his attention, focusing and developing the student's skills from the range to the golf course. I pride myself on coaching the player after learning. I am a member of the V1 Golf Academy and am a firm believer of the use of video equipment in golf instruction.
My teaching philosophy is, “that basic fundamentals are the first key to improving”. My students understand the importance of the grip, posture, ball position, and alignment before learning the golf swing. After establishing a great setup, then I believe there are certain fundamentals that all great golfers have in common. The key is developing a practice strategy that will allow the golfer to be aware of key swing positions. I strive to find the correct words, or images to help convey the swing thought. The proper fundamentals, ultimately allow them to realize their full golfing potential.
I have had the fortune of working with some great mentors during my years in the business and feel very lucky to have been exposed to many different types of golf facilities during my career. My management philosophy is, “I fundamentally believe in team management. I am not the type to bellow “my way or the highway”, but rather to hire a competent and reliable group of professionals working towards the same goal – member satisfaction and a successful facility. The operation can be successful when everyone works together towards a common goal. One of my biggest joys of being a PGA Professional is the legacy of having developed many Golf Professionals. It truly is an honor to have been able to help young aspiring Golf Professionals move in a positive direction in their careers.
